Sudden Oak Death Disease
Sudden Oak Death disease has not yet been discovered in Placer County, however local agricultural and farm officials want residents to be aware of that possibility, and to know the symptoms. Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley have discovered that the fungus-like alga which apparently causes the disease also similarly affects other trees, including coastal redwoods and Douglas fir. It also affects some 14 other plant species, including madrone, bay laurel, buckeye and rhododendron.
