Home District Inspections

Updated 2/8/12

What is a "Home District" in the Portable Equipment Registration Program (PERP)?

A home district is the Air District designated by the responsible official of the portable engine or equipment unit in which the portable engine or equipment unit resides most of the time. For example; if an engine or an equipment unit resides in Placer County for six months out of a year, at the time of registration or renewal, Placer County should be designated as that PERP's Home District.

What are the Notification Requirements for the Owner or Operator of a PERP Engine or Equipment in the Home District?

Within 45 days after the initial issuance or renewal of a PERP registration, the owner or operator must contact the Home District to arrange for an inspection. Failure to do so may result in a violation which could be associated with a monetary fine.

What is the Cost for an Inspection?

  • PERP Engines: The inspection fee ($315.00) is included in the fee paid to the Statewide Portable Registration Program at the time of the initial or renewal permit issuance.

  • PERP Equipment:  Inspection fees are charged on a case by case basis depending on the number of hours required to conduct the field inspection and are billed at a rate of $98.00 per hour.
