Clean Air Grant Frequently Asked Questions

                                         2008 Clean Air Grants Logo

What is The Clean Air Grant Program?
The Clean Air Grant Program (CAG) is designed to lower everyday emissions from on and offroad sources, support cleaner fuel technology, and educate the public about air pollution.

What is the benefit to me?
This is a good opportunity to get a financial grant to significantly lower your cost to replace an older diesel engine or vehicle, build an alternative fuel station, or develop an alternative transportation or public education program.

Why should I be interested?
Participating in the Clean Air Grant program will reduce your costs for purchasing low emission vehicles and equipment and help the region improve air quality. Placer County and the other counties of the Sacramento region do not meet State and federal health-based ambient air quality standards.

Who can apply?
Any individual, business, public agency, or non-profit organization located in Placer County, including the Placer County portion of North Lake Tahoe area, or which operates within Placer County.

How much money is available?
Approximately $1,700,000 dollars.

Where can I find the applications?
The 2008 Application period is now closed.

When are applications due?
From January 11, 2008 to March 7, 2008 at 5:00 pm   Applications received after 5:00 p.m. on March 7, 2008 will not be considered.

What happens if my project is selected for grant funding?
You will need to enter into a contract with the Placer County APCD.

Where does the money come from?
From your annual Department of Motor Vehicles Registration Fee of $6.00 per vehicle, and from off-site air pollution mitigation fees paid by new development within Placer County.

What is the most important criterion for which a project will be granted money?
We want to achieve the greatest amount of emission reductions for the money awarded, maximizing cost effectiveness. The greater the emission reductions, the better your chances at being awarded a grant.

If I am awarded a grant, when do I need to finish my project?
All projects must be completed within a two-year time frame unless otherwise negotiated.

Can vehicles/equipment under regulation quality for funding?
No.
