Asbestos - Demolition and Renovation

Placer County Air Pollution Control District is not responsible for enforcement of the U.S. EPA’s National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) regulations for Asbestos. The U.S. EPA has delegated this responsibility to the California Air Resources Board which has the forms necessary to comply with the NESHAP regulations.

The U.S. EPA has either delegated the Asbestos NESHAPS program oversight to air districts or the local district is not delegated and the State is responsible. The following is a California map that shows delegated and nondelegated Air Pollution Control Districts.

For information on the NESHAPS program for asbestos, contact the State of California Air Resources Board.

The Division of Occupational Safety and Health administers a number of programs regarding exposure to asbestos in the workplace as well as certified consultants and site surveillance technicians.

The State of California Integrated Waste Management Board regulates the state’s landfills. Check their website to find out what is accepted at a specific landfill.

General Information on Asbestos can be found at the U.S. EPA’s website.

Naturally Occurring Asbestos can be found at the District’s website.
