The Business Advantage Network

The Business Advantage Network, located in Auburn and Roseville, is a team of highly dedicated and professional business and workforce development staff serving the needs of Placer County businesses. We provide a variety of services to help a business in their expansion, retention and relocation plans. We provide information on free services for recruitment, training and incentive programs. The Placer County Business Advantage Network is designed to help employers find trained, motivated workers. In the event you may need lay-off assistance (Rapid Response), we can facilitate an on-site orientation for your affected employees. We provide all our services at NO-COST to your business.

 Business Advantage Network Recruiting Services

Services to businesses may include:

· Scheduling appointments for interviews, reminder calls, or letters
· Conference rooms for conducting testing or interviews
· No-cost advertising for your job openings on CalJOBS
· Advertisement for on-site recruitment events
· Scheduling of applicants
· Issue conditional certification of Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC)

EMPLOYER RESOURCES

Workforce Incentive Programs:

•    Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) - WOTC is a federal tax credit program available to employers who hire people from specific target groups that experience barriers to employment. For more information on qualifying target groups and forms, go to the website Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC). An employer may be able to claim up to $9000 in Federal Tax Credits per qualified job seeker hired.

•    
49er Regional Occupational Program (ROP) - Internship programs
ROP is a part of a statewide program designed to bring education and business together. ROP provides career preparation for high school students and adults through classroom academics, skill training, and through hands-on training taught through internships at local businesses and industry.

•     Work Experience Program (WEX)– The Work Experience Program, for non-profit, private, or public agencies, places eligible individuals in non-paid employment to gain current work experience and skills, while providing employers with needed labor. Volunteer hours can be up to 32 hours per week. To be considered as a host work site contact Marcy Schmidt at mschmidt@placer.ca.gov.

 Employer Advisory Councils:
The Foothill and South Placer Employer Advisory Council are non-profit organizations that are also part of more than 50 other local groups throughout the state that fall under the
California Employer Advisory Council (CEAC).The Foothill Employer Advisory Council and South Placer Employer Advisory Council offers numerous workshops and seminars designed for local businesses in mind at a low cost. Provided in partnership with the Employment Development Department (EDD), these workshops and seminars will keep you up-to-date on current issues, trends, and legislation that affect your business. Employment Development Department (LMI) Labor Market Information

Training Programs:

The Employment Training Panel (ETP)
ETP is a business and labor supported state agency that assists employers in strengthening their competitive edge by providing funds to off-set the costs of job skills training necessary to maintain high-performance workplaces. ETP is governed by an
8 member Panel; seven are appointed by the Governor and the Assembly and Senate leadership. The Secretary of Business, Transportation and Housing, or his/her designee, shall serve as ex officio, voting member.

 On-The-Job Training (OJT)
The length of an On-the-Job Training contract depends on the period of time needed to train the individual. Partial wage reimbursement for training costs are up to 50% for qualified applicants. Reimbursement is performance-based and is generally spread out over a period of six months. For information contact Marcy Schmidt at

 Sierra College Economic Development
Customized Workforce Training:

  • On-Site Computer Skills Training - Provides computer training based on employer needs. Fees are charged on an hourly basis. Employees are instructed in a 15-station computer lab on the work-site or in another location, depending on employer needs.
  • Fee-Based Training - A network of faculty and consultants can provide training on virtually any topic. Fees are charged on an hourly basis. Topics include supervisory training, new hire training, and a wide variety of hands-on technical classes.
  • On-Site Credit Classes - Allows most credit courses in the college catalog to be conducted at the work-site. Participants complete an application and registration form.

•    Center for Applied Competitive Technologies(CACT). Provided by Sierra College, the CACT helps California's manufacturing industry compete successfully in the global economy, and serves California industry by preparing the workforce for the technological challenges of tomorrow. Initial consultations and site visits are provided at no charge.

•    Grant funded training. The Community College Chancellor's Office provides various levels of funding for specific training projects. Training programs can be structured to fit production demands. State grants may partially fund training.
