Public Works Announces Seasonal Tahoe Basin Road Projects

With the opening of the building season in the Tahoe Basin, the Placer County Department of Public Works has announced its ambitious road maintenance schedule. More than 50 roads will be receiving maintenance work this summer.

Roadways that will be overlaid with new pavement are:

  • Fabian Way from Highway 28 to Village Road;
  • Village Road from Fabian Way to its end;
  • Polaris Road from Village Road to its end;
  • Brassie Avenue;
  • Midiron Avenue;
  • Mashie Avenue;
  • Birch Avenue; and
  • Tiger Avenue.

This work is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 11 through July 18. In addition to the streets named above, there will be patch paving on various streets in Kings Beach, Tahoe Estate and at other locations on the North Shore during that time.

There will be microsurface repaving tentatively scheduled during July and August on numerous streets in the Basin. The use of this method in the Basin is both cost effective and less intrusive to motorists. Conventional slurry sealing can take half a day or more before the surface is sufficiently cured to allow motor vehicle traffic. With microsurface repaving, vehicles can typically use the roadway about an hour after treatment. With the extensive list of roadways to be repaired this summer and given the sometimes narrow nature of roads on the North Shore, Public Works chose to use method.

The following streets are slated for work:

  • Alpine Way, between Holly Avenue and Heights Lane;
  • Alpine Way, between Tahoe Woods Boulevard and Holly Road;
