Montgomery Joins Board of Supervisors; Chairman, Vice-Chair Selected

The Placer County Board of Supervisors transitioned into the new year with a different look when newly elected 5th District Supervisor Jennifer Montgomery was officially sworn in and assumed her duties on Mon., Jan 5, 2009. Third District Supervisor Jim Holmes was also sworn in on Monday, beginning his second elected term. Fourth District Supervisor Kirk Uhler took his oath of office on Wed., Dec. 31, 2008. Uhler was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Board in 2006 and was re-elected to the current term. Uhler previously represented the 4th District from 1993-1996.

At the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting on Tues., Jan. 13, 2009, Montgomery, Holmes and Uhler participated in public oath taking ceremony. After the ceremonial swearing-in, the Board selected 1st District Supervisor F.C. "Rocky Rockholm as Chairman for 2009. Uhler was selected Vice-Chair for 2009.

“I am honored to represent the voters and residents of the 5th District and will do my best to serve their needs fairly and equitably,” said Montgomery. “I look forward to the next four years working with the rest of Board on many issues: balanced budgets, regional wastewater and land use. I will also focus on local concerns such as the state’s proposed septic regulations, the Kings Beach Commercial Core project and the Meadow Vista Community Center. We have a great opportunity to move Placer County in a direction that serves its citizens and ensures a brighter future for all.”

A Serene Lakes resident, Montgomery represents the 5th District, which stretches from North Auburn to the California State line and includes a large part of Lake Tahoe.

Holmes, who represents the 3rd District, which includes the City of Auburn and the communities of Ophir, Newcastle, Penryn, Loomis and parts of Rocklin, served as the Chairman of the Board in 2008.

“I look forward to serving the citizens of Placer County for the next four years. We’ve had a very successful past four years and got a lot accomplished,” said Holmes. “We know with the economic climate it’s going to be challenging in the next few years. I feel Placer County is well positioned to ride it out.”

Uhler begins his seventh year as a supervisor with the 2009 term. The 4th District encompasses the community of Granite Bay and parts of Roseville.

“I am honored to continue serving the people of Placer County,” Uhler said. “Our County faces unprecedented fiscal challenges that will require numerous difficult decisions. We must commit ourselves to finding and eliminating barriers to economic development and job creation while prioritizing our spending to make sure that our citizens have the tools they need to remain productive. Adequate infrastructure and fire and sheriff protection are chief among these.”

Montgomery, Holmes and Uhler join Rockholm, the 2008 Vice Chair, whose district covers parts of Roseville, and 2nd District Supervisor Robert Weygandt, whose district covers Northwestern Placer County, including parts of Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln.

California law requires that elected county officials take office at noon on the first Monday after January 1.
