PLACER COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS' TAHOE ENGINEERING TEAM SET TO MOVE INTO LAKE TAHOE BASIN

April 20, 2010

The Placer County Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Tahoe Engineering Division is moving its staff from offices in Truckee to a North Lake Tahoe location. The move will put the Tahoe staff closer to the constituents and customers they serve.

The move, to an existing commercial office building in Tahoe Vista, will take place the weekend of April 24-25, to minimize service disruption. The offices are expected to be open for business on Tue., April 27.

The new offices, located at 7717 North Lake Boulevard in Tahoe Vista, formerly housed the California State Automobile Association, which built the building in 1990. It includes parking and has access to highways 28 and 267.

“The new Tahoe Engineering Division office will allow County staff to be closer to the customers we serve and the lake that we are helping to protect,” said DPW Director Ken Grehm.

Placer County acquired the 3,344-square-foot building in March for $860,000. Prior to occupying, the County upgraded the building’s energy management system and data networks, and will also be upgrading stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) pursuant to Tahoe Regional Planning Agency standards.

The Tahoe Engineering Division plans, designs and manages the construction of capital improvement projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin and other eastern parts of Placer County such as the Donner Summit area. Projects in the Division’s scope of projects include water quality, transportation and transit improvements. DPW also manages compliance with public right-of-way encroachment permits for eastern Placer County including the Placer County portion of the Tahoe Basin.

DPW was initially located in offices at the Tahoe Area Regional Transit facilities at Cabin Creek. DPW then made the decision to move into a more suitable office. At that time, due to a dearth of available office space in the Tahoe Basin, the Division moved into a newly constructed building in Truckee, where it has remained in until the upcoming move.

The Tahoe Engineering Division consists of 11 staff members, including Department of Public Works Deputy Director Peter Kraatz. After the move into the Tahoe Basin, the Division will have the same telephone numbers it had in Truckee.
