North Lake Tahoe Assessor's Office Open Again;Other Offices to Follow

November 22, 2010

The Placer County Assessor’s Tahoe office is now open in a newly-acquired building in Tahoe City. The building, known as the Customs House, is located at 775 North Lake Blvd. The Assessor is located in suite 201. Public counter hours are from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

The Tahoe City office offers assistance with assessment inquiries, assessment appeals information, decline in value program information, and maps, tax roll facts and forms. All these functions can also be accessed online at http://www.placer.ca.gov/Departments/Assessor.aspx. The website also has a frequently asked questions page that can provide answers to many common questions. To reach the Assessor’s office by telephone, please call 530-889-4300.

Placer County acquired the 11,400-square foot commercial building in July. Placer County was able to buy this bank-owned property, built in 2005, for $3.4 million, well below fair market value. The purchase cost was funded through the Capital Projects Fund.

The building consists of eight office suites, two of which are currently occupied by private professional businesses. These are now tenants of Placer County, paying rental income. In addition to the Assessor’s Tahoe functions, the building will eventually house several other county departments.

In addition, the Community Development Resource Agency, which handles land and building functions in the county, and Environmental Health's Tahoe office will also be housed in the building. Consolidating county functions into one county-owned building has numerous benefits.

The Assessor’s mailing address remains the same: Placer County Assessor, 2980 Richardson Drive, Auburn, CA 95603-2640.
