Three Placer County Tahoe employees were recognized for their everyday commitment and accomplishments at a luncheon gathering in Kings Beach on Thurs., June 19, 2008. The three were given Workforce Excellence awards as part of the County’s Employee Recognition Award Program.
“Tahoe employees represent nearly every service and department that operates countywide, and even some we don’t have elsewhere,” said County Executive Officer Thomas M. Miller. “Many are expected to rise to the Placer County’s high level of service standards with skeleton crews.”
The Awardees are:
Stacy Wydra, a Senior Planner with the Tahoe Planning Department. Wydra was nominated by two different employees for the award.
“Stacy is passionate about her job and the service that she provides to the community,” said her supervisor, Paul Thompson. “This passion shows in her positive attitude at work and the way she faces problems not as problems, but as challenges that need solutions.”
Lano Shomo, an Administrative Clerk with Tahoe Planning Department. Shomo was also nominated by two different employees.
“Lana consistently goes above and beyond her duties to assist customers,” said Paul Thompson, who is also Shomo’s supervisor. “She has agreed to drop off materials for someone more than 30 miles away ‘on her way home,’ and has been found holding someone’s child in her lap while typing so that the customer could concentrate while submitting documents. While most people would say, ‘that’s not my job,’ Lana takes time to help tourists who accidently wander into the office with tourist information.”
Starr Popplewell, Administrative Secretary for the Tahoe Design Division office of the Department of Public Works. Popplewell supports a staff of 10, in addition to supporting the Public Works deputy director.
“Her high standards of work and excellent organizational skills assists our design team to meet deadlines, produce high quality work and be extremely productive,” said Public Works Deputy Director Peter Kraatz. “Star truly makes our division shine.”
