In 2005, the Agency initiated Redevelopment Polanco Act remedies to engage current property owners and initiate cleanup efforts of the contaminated site. In November 2005, the Agency entered into a contract with consultants to prepare a site clean up and corrective action plan for contaminated sites located in the Project Area. In November 2006, the Agency purchased the site from Andco Farms, Inc. and embarked on an aggressive demolition and cleanup schedule. Buildings on the site were demolished in June 2007. In July 2007, remnant underground storage tanks will be removed. Ongoing groundwater monitoring will occur throughout the next year. The Agency anticipates completing remediation efforts within 18 months. The acquisition and cleanup of the site is part of a larger strategy the Agency has begun in the eastern gateway area of KingsBeachto assemble parcels for a future comprehensive redevelopment project. |
