Jackpine Street Free Public Parking – TahoeCity
In 2001, Tahoe City parking study was completed. The study identified strategies to improve parking within the downtown Tahoe City Area. In support of this study, the Agency initiated negotiations to lease a site on Jackpine Street for future parking needs. Negotiations for a 30-year lease were completed in 2003. Construction of 40-space free public parking lot on Jackpine Street was completed in October 2006. The project preserved heritage trees and a stream environment zone that is adjacent to the parking lot. Use of the Tahoe City approved pavers and lighting were continued along the sidewalk facing Jackpine Street.
The parking lot utilized pervious concrete as a test model for future lots. Pervious concrete allows moisture to travel through the surface. While conventional construction methods allow moisture to pool on the surface of the parking lot, not seep into the ground.
