Risk Management is comprised of the following programs: Insurance Purchasing, General Liability, Workers Compensation, Safety, Internal Investigations, Disability Management and Organizational Development.  Risk Management is directed by Maryellen Peters, Deputy CEO.
Disability Management implements and has oversight for the County's ADA/FEHA policy. Ensures that appropriate accommodations are made for employees that meet the criteria according to ADA/FEHA statutes. Monitors various types of leaves for employees to ensure that return to work or alternative assignments are addressed at the most appropriate time.
General Liability administers, investigates and controls claim costs by reducing and avoiding risks; GL also maintains and manages adequate reserve to pay for all liability claims and related costs.
Internal Investigations is responsible for investigating violations of the Discrimination and Workplace Harassment Policy and the Violence in the Workplace Policy. Conducts pre-employment background checks and disciplinary investigations, as needed.
Safety controls claim costs by promoting worker health, promoting safe operations and activities, providing training to prevent injuries and guarantee compliance with CAL-OSHA regulations.
Workers' Compensation oversees investigations and timely filing of claims and ensures that employees are provided with statutory benefits as outlined in the Labor Code. WC also maintains adequate reserves to pay for claims within our policy deductible. WC also oversees the mandatory DOT Drug and Alcohol Regulations.
Organizational Development trains county staff in a number of federally and state-mandated areas, as well as, in areas of good business and personnel management.
