Codes used by the Building Department
The Building Department uses several model codes to evaluate building plans and permit applications, before granting building permits. The department uses the codes, along with a series of on-site inspections, to help assure that buildings in Placer County are built safely and meet current generally accepted construction standards.
Chapter 15, Article 15 of the Placer County Code provides more information on the codes used by the department to set building standards, including details on snow load requirements. You can either use the code table of contents or search on "building" to find further information.

The county also uses a series of model building codes which are maintained as proprietary information by the International Code Counsil (ICC). These codes are available for purchase on the ICC Web site. The updated state codes are:
- Part 2, known as the California Building Code (CBC) (2006 International Building Code)
- Part 3, known as the California Electrical Code (CEC) (2005 National Electrical Code)
- Part 4, known as the California Mechanical Code (CMC) (2006 Uniform Mechanical Code)
- Part 5, known as the California Plumbing Code (CPC) (2006 Uniform Plumbing Code)
- Part 10, known as the California Existing Building Code (CEBC) (2006 International Building Code)
