 What the Placer County Office of Emergency Services Does
The Office of Emergency Services (OES) provides emergency management for the Director of Emergency Services who is the County Executive Officer. Per the California Emergency Services Act it coordinates emergency support of incidents by cities, special districts and state, federal and non-profit agencies and organizations. |

The Placer County OES is the emergency management agency for Placer County. The office provides service countywide, in cooperation with local cities and special districts, such as fire and law agencies.
Since the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, agencies within Placer County have increased training in chemical, biological and radiological terrorism response measures. OES staff continue to work closely with other public safety agencies in Placer County, and have increased their involvement in regional planning activities with local, state and federal public safety agencies in case of a possible terrorist attack in the area. |
County Emergency Management Program:

Directs the County's overall response to natural and human-caused disasters.

Assigns emergency responsibilities to the various departments of the County.

Coordinates the response and recovery efforts of governmental and non-governmental agencies during disasters.

Manages the County's Emergency Operations Centers.

Conducts emergency drills and simulations. |

Hazard Mitigation and Biomass Programs: OES: 
- Coordinates preparation of the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, and manages the FEMA Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant program for the county.
- Is the County point of contact for Community Wildfire Protection Planning.
- Coordinates the Placer County Bio-mass program.
- Facilitates work of the Fire Safe Alliance and Fire Safe Councils to promulgate public information regarding fire awareness, the chipper program, fuels reduction, defensible space requirements, etc.
Fire Protection and Hazardous Materials Response
- Administers County contract for fire protection with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CALFIRE).
- Manages the Hazardous Materials Response Program comprising the City of Roseville Hazmat Team and two multi-agency Hazmat teams based in Auburn and Truckee.
- Coordinates and provides training to the County Emergency Management Organization.
- Physically responds to hazardous materials incidents and other emergencies representing the County Executive Officer and the Board of Supervisors.

Public Outreach and Emergency Public Information
- Provides preparedness information to citizens and community groups;
- Provides information to the public during emergencies; and
- Coordinates training of Public Information Team.
