Tahoe Regional Planning Agency
The
Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the Placer County Planning Department work together to process permits in the Tahoe basin based on the provisions of the
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two agencies. The
Placer County Zoning Ordinance also applies to all land uses and development within the unincorporated areas of Placer County.
TRPA requires a Site Assessment for any single family project seeking to add or relocate coverage on properties that have been developed prior to July 1, 1987 and have an approved TRPA Permit. Once a Site Assessment Application has been completed, the applicant establishes a baseline coverage allowance for any future project, usually a Building Permit.
The Planning Department will review the Site Assessment Application prior to submittal of a building permit application to the Building Department (please reference the fee schedule). Prior to submitting an application, applicants need to ensure that no previous permits exist by completing a parcel search using the proper form for the permit type. Should you have any questions regarding this process, please contact our Tahoe City office at 530-581-6280.
