ON-CALL SACRAMENTO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICER
IS ARRESTED ON CHILD MOLESTATION CHARGES
A 39-year-old part-time Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested for allegedly sexually molesting a 13-year-old girl at a hotel in Lincoln.
Eric Cephus, who works as an on-call officer, was taken into custody Tuesday night at his residence in San Jose and booked into the Santa Clara County jail.
Lincoln Police Sgt. Terry Kennedy said Cephus was booked on charges of committing a lewd act with a child under the age of 14 and of kidnapping to commit a sexual act.
Kennedy said Cephus will be transferred to the Placer County jail in Auburn and that the investigation in Lincoln is continuing. A police report will be forwarded to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges.
Kennedy said an investigation of Cephus began Feb. 27 after police officers talked to the girl.
“Our investigation uncovered evidence that substantiated her statements,” Kennedy said.
Among agencies assisting with the Lincoln Police Department’s investigation were the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, the Placer County Sheriff’s Department, the San Jose Police Department and the Placer County District Attorney’s Office.
