Solid Waste and Recycling
The Division administers and manages the county-wide solid waste and recycling programs in eastern and western Placer County. County-owned facilities include the Eastern Regional Landfill and Material Recovery Facility in the Tahoe area and transfer stations in Meadow Vista and Foresthill as well as closed landfills in Loomis, Meadow Vista and Foresthill. The Division also provides administrative support and management of the Western Placer Waste Management Authority, which owns and operates the Western Regional Sanitary Landfill and Material Recovery Facility in Roseville.
Additionally, the Division:
- Administers contracts for garbage collection franchises, engineering services, monitoring of landfills, and landfill facility construction.
- Serves as liaison between county, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
- Manages the County’s recycling and household hazardous waste (HHW) programs.

Wastewater
This division operates and maintains the County’s wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, and collection pipelines. Areas served include unincorporated portions of: North Auburn, Granite Bay, Loomis, western Placer County (Dry Creek), Livoti, Sunset Industrial area, Sheridan, Applegate and Blue Canyon.
As well, Environmental Engineering staff provides engineering, permitting, and planning support to these facilities as well as conduct public education & outreach.

Water
The division maintains the public water systems in the community of Sheridan.
