Sheridan Water Supply Improvement Project

Project Description

Placer County is constructing a new well, storage tank, pump station, and distribution piping to improve the water supply and storage capacity of Sheridan's existing water supply system, to ensure the community has sufficient water supply and storage capacity to meet current California Waterworks Standards and State fire flow requirements for the school. Project Location

The new well, storage tank, and pump station will be installed on the 0.45 acre County-owned parcel located west of Stewart Hall and the Sheridan Community Park.  Pipeline will be installed from the new well, through easements on private property to 10th Street, and continue south on 10th Street to H Street, per the adjacent project map.

What to Expect

  • Typical construction activities will be from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm weekdays.
  • Large trucks and trenching equipment in roadways (traffic control will be implemented; delays are possible).
  • Drilling equipment on project site.
  • Possible lane closures Monday through Friday.
  • Minimal impacts to driveway access.  
  • Prior notification will be provided regarding interruption of water service.

Project Funding

The estimated Project cost is $2,535,200.  The project will be funded in part through grants from the California Department of Housing and Community Development-Community Development Block Grant Program and U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Services.

Funding Sources

  • USDA Rural Utilities Service Grant – $699,800

Project Schedule

June – July:  Well site preparation.

July – September:  Well drilling & construction.  Off-site water line installation.

October – November:  Pump station construction.

November – December:  Set, disinfect, and fill water storage tank.

December – February:  Complete pump station construction

March 2014:  Project completion.

Monthly Project Updates

March 2014

The well pump will be installed the first week of March. After installation, final electrical work and system testing will be performed to complete the project.  It is anticipated that the new system will be in use by mid-March.

February 2014

Construction is 95% complete and the well pump will be installed mid-February.  The water system is expected to be operational in early March.

January 2014

Complete pump station construction and prepare for well pump installation.

December 2013

Installation of the new pump, and connection of the new and existing water systems, will complete the project.

November 2013

The new water storage tanks will be constructed, filled and sanitized this month.  Installation of underground piping will continue, and foundation work will be done at the well site.

October 2013

The newly installed water pipes in the roadway will be connected to the existing water system.  At the well site, underground piping will be installed and foundation work will be done.

September 2013

Offsite pipeline installation will be complete this month; well development will continue; pump station piping and site grading, underground electrical, and concrete work will begin; and 10th Street will be repaved.

August 2013

Installation of the off-site pipeline will continue through this month, while well drilling and well construction will begin. Staff plans to attend the August 14th MAC meeting.

July 2013

Potholing (digging small holes to locate underground utilities), to prepare for pipeline excavation along 10th Street and Camp Far West Road (near the park), has begun and will continue through the end of July.  Pavement saw cutters, excavators and dump trucks will move in to 10th Street as early as the week of July 15th.   Pipeline work is scheduled to go on through the end of August.  Protective fencing will be installed around sensitive habitat adjacent to the well site.  Well drilling equipment is scheduled to move in to the well site the last week of July.

June 2013

USDA funding was received on June 6, 2013 and the Notice of Award was issued to Westcon Construction Corporation on June 7, 2013. Placer County issued the Notice to Proceed on June 27,2013; construction is to begin shortly thereafter.

May 2013

The Placer County Board of Supervisors authorized award of the Project to Westcon Construction Corporation contingent on USDA funding.
