The Bernhard House has been welcoming visitors for over 150 years.

Built in 1851 as the Traveler’s Rest Hotel, the property was later purchased by Bernhard Bernhard who turned the surrounding area into farm land. The Bernhard family continued farming here until they sold the property in 1958. Placer County was given possession of the house and grounds in 1973 and today it is the county’s premier Victorian house museum.
Filled with artifacts and furnishings from a bygone era, the Bernhard House transports its visitors to a simpler time. In addition to the Bernhard house, the 2.3 acre grounds is also home to a wine processing building, a carriage barn filled with rolling stock and a working winery.
The Bernhard Museum also serves as home to the Living History Program. Every year, over 3,000 3rd graders travel back to the 1890s to learn just what living on a 19th century farm was all about. |
