Located 30 miles east of Auburn on I-80, the Golden Drift Museum is nestled among the pines in historic Dutch Flat, one of the best preserved gold rush era towns.
| |
Located on Main Street, this house-turned-museum is filled to the brim with the town’s history which encompasses the glory days of hydraulic mining, lumber production, the laying of the transcontinental railroad, and other threads in the tapestry of the region’s history.
One wall of the museum is entirely covered with historic photos of the area along with extensive histories of its inhabitants. In the main gallery are exhibits which chronicle Dutch Flat’s history from when it was a Nisenan summer retreat to modern times.
When visiting Dutch Flat, take time to tour the town and enjoy the community’s many fine Gold Rush era and Victorian buildings.
