Library Online Services

Library Online Services

The PlacerCountyLibrary provides several online services

  • Placing holds on library materials
  • Checking which materials you have checked out
  • Renewing your materials online. Here's some information on using these handy tools.

Setting Up Your Online Library Account at Home

You will need to have a library card to use many of the online library services. Cards are free and you can apply for a card at any of the county branch libraries.

1. Go to the main Library Web page, http://www.placer.ca.gov/library

2. Click on the link to the library branch you use most often.

3. Click "Search LIbrary Collection."

4. Click "My Account," on the upper right.

5. Click "User PIN Change." (PIN means "Personal Identification Number.")

6. Type in your library card number without the dash (-).

7. The starting PIN for all library accounts is changeme. In the PIN box, type changeme as one word, with no space or dash.

8. Type your new PIN in the "Enter new PIN" box. It can be numbers or letters, but can be no more than 10 characters long. Use all numbers or all letters - not a mix. Finally, remember the system is case-sensitive.

PIN examples: booklover, 5551212, livewell

9. Re-type your PIN in the "Re-enter new PIN" box.

10. Click "Change PIN."

11. "PIN Changed" will display on your screen, confirming your PIN change.

12. Click "OK."

13. Log out of your library account and log back in to test your new PIN.

14. If you have problems, call the library during business hours at 530-886-4500, or, toll-free within the county, at 800-488-4308, ext. 4500.

Renew an Item Online

1. Open your online library account.

2. Click "My Account."

3. Click "Renew My Materials."

4. Click on the button for "Renew Selected Items" or "Renew All"

5. If you checked "Renew Selected Items," check the box next to the items you want to renew.

6. Click on the "Renew Selected Items" button toward the bottom left of the page.

7. Your renewals will be confirmed, or you will be told which items can't be renewed.

8. If an item fails to be renewed, it has either already been renewed (items can be renewed only once) or someone has a “Hold” on it. Nonrenewable items need to be returned to the Library as soon as possible. There is a $.25 charge per item per day.

Put an Item on Reserve/Hold Online

1. Use the simple "Search" or the "Power Search" function to find the item you want.

2. If your search found one item, click "Hold" and follow steps 4 - 9, below.

3. If your search found more than one item, click "Details" in the box to the left of the title. Your choice will be displayed.

4. Be sure the library branch displayed in the "choose library" field is the most convenient branch for you. Otherwise, the item will be held at the Auburnbranch.

5. Click "Place Hold."

6. Open your online library account. Type in your Library card number without the dash (-).

7. Your "hold" request will be confirmed

8. Click "OK."

9. You may not be able to place a hold if an item is still in processing, or if you already have 12 items on hold.

If you have questions about these services, please contact the library at 530-886-4500, or, toll-free within the county, at 800-488-4308, ext. 4500.
