Applegate Library History

The Applegate Library was established in 1923 as a project of the Wednesday Club and all books were loaned or donated by its members. The books were rented to adults for ten cents a week. School children could use the books for free. In April 1936, the library joined the Free Placer County Library System, but it was not until 1938 that the county took over the expense for the branch, which up until then had been assumed by the Lady's Club. In 1963, the Branch was moved to quarters beside the Applegate Post Office in the Roberts Building on Applegate Road. In June of 1987 the library moved to its current location. The library is 1800 square feet.
