The Tahoe City Library provides a cozy environment to browse books, find a movie for any mood, use one of our internet computers, enjoy the fireplace and get a little noisy in the separate children's area.
Tahoe City Library History
Anne Anderson started the Tahoe City Library in the mid 1930s by borrowing books from the County Library and friends in Tahoe City. Working as a volunteer, she circulated these books among Tahoe City residents. The first Tahoe City Branch Library was housed in the Tahoe Community Center which was dedicated in June 1938. Construction for a new library, which was designed and built by Norman Mayfield, began in June 1951. The Julia Bechdolt Memorial Library was dedicated on June 29, 1952. On December 15, 1973, O.V. Vernon presented $15,000.00 to Placer County to be used for a new branch library if construction began within one year. The site for the new branch library located at 740 North Lake Boulevard was constructed by Moana Corporation. Construction began in May 1975. The new building was dedicated on April 6, 1976.
