A 5% Architectural License Premium will be paid in addition to the monthly salary.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate extensive experience in the design and construction of public sector-general government and criminal justice projects, as well as, extensive site/facility master planning, organizational master planning and regional planning experience.

Description

To perform professional architect duties requiring a high degree of expertise and independent judgment; to perform space assessment, financial, and administrative studies of a difficult and complex nature; to coordinate and monitor complex and difficult construction projects; to exercise technical and functional supervision over professional and technical personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

It is the applicant’s responsibility to identify in their application materials how they meet the MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS listed below.

Experience: Three (3) years of responsible architectural assistant experience performing duties similar to an Architectural Assistant II with Placer County. These duties include, but are not limited to providing full architectural services (pre-design through construction administration), managing consultant contracts and construction contracts and developing and managing capital project budgets.

Training: Equivalent to a (5) five-year Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in architecture or qualifying experience for acceptance by the California Board of Architectural Examiners to take the state Architectural Registration Examination (A.R.E.).

· Relevant, equivalent experience (performing the same or similar job requiring similar knowledge, skills, and abilities) may be substituted for the required education as determined by the Personnel Department.

· Applicants receiving their degree outside the United States must submit proof of accreditation by a recognized evaluation agency.

License or Certificate: Possession of certificate of registration as a licensed Architect issued by the California State Board of Architectural Examiners. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.

Examination Process


TRAINING & EXPERIENCE RATING – 100%

Based upon responses to the attached supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list.

A weekly schedule of Examinations is posted on Personnel's web site.

Notification

Notification for each phase of the recruitment process will be by U.S. Mail. Please notify the Personnel Department of any address change for all applications submitted.

Knowledge of

Principles and practices of project and contract administration, including budget management, basic accounting and contract negotiations. County procurement policies and procedures. County budget processes. Pertinent Federal, State, and local statutes, ordinances, and regulations, including Uniform Building Code and contract law. Principles and practices of architectural design, including computer aided drafting and design technology. Principles and practices of construction and construction management, with an emphasis on public sector (commercial) applications. Statistical methods and analysis, and the use of statistics in reports. Mathematics, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Computer software, including word processing, spreadsheet, data base, CADD and graphics applications. Business correspondence and report preparation. Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.

Ability to

On a continuous basis, know and understand all aspects of the job; intermittently analyze work papers, reports and special projects; identify and interpret technical and numerical information; interpret drawings and plans; observe and problem solve operational and technical policy and procedures; interpret and explain policies, procedures, contracts, and specifications to consultants, contractors, vendors, and the public; and maintain an awareness of safety at all times. Train, assign and review work of subordinate staff. Coordinate and monitor large, difficult and/or complex construction projects. Prepare architectural drawings and specifications of difficult and complex alterations, new buildings, and miscellaneous construction projects. Detect errors and discrepancies in plans and specifications. Explain and enforce codes, plans, specifications and contracts. Analyze space requirements and evaluate facility needs. Understand and interpret complex rules and procedures. Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner. Obtain information through interview; handle multiple assignments and establish appropriate priorities; deal fairly and courteously with the public. Analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action. Use manual and computer aided drafting and design tools and equipment. Use a computer, calculator, typewriter, telephone, facsimile machine and photocopy machine. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. On a continuous basis, sit at a desk and in meetings for long periods of time; intermittently walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel or twist while conducting field site inspections; intermittently twist to reach equipment surrounding desk or work station; perform simple grasping and fine manipulation use telephone, and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means; and occasionally lift moderate weight.

Condition of Employment

Before date of hire, applicant must pass a medical examination which includes drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation, sign a constitutional oath, and submit proof of U.S. Citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. Applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background check, be bonded, and/or be fingerprinted.

Modified Agency Shop

All new permanent employees, with the exception of law enforcement and management, shall be required to join the employee organization or pay an 'Agency Fee' as a condition of employment.

Substitute Lists

The eligible list(s) resulting from this recruitment may be certified as a substitute list for a substantially similar classification.
