How do I contact the Court Clerk's Office for Juvenile Court/Department 12?
A
The Juvenile Court Clerk can ber eached at (530) 886-4813, between the hours of 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

What are visiting hours for the Juvenile Detention Facility(JDF)?
A
Unit A: Visiting on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
Unit B: Visiting on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
Unit C: Visiting on Sundays at 2:30 p.m
 

Maximum Security: Parents must call (530) 886-4875 for assignment of time and date for visitation.

Parents should call at least 24 hours in advance to determine minor's housing assignment, at(530) 886-4875.

Who is allowed to visit minors incarcerated at the Juvenile Detention Facility?
A

Parents/legal guardians Attorney of record or designated representative; Civil Rights attorney, if requested by minor. Minister/Clergy/Bishop, etc.
Grandparents, only with a JDF Senior Probation Officer's approval.

All visitors must show legal identification containing a photograph at the time of visitation

A
Visiting is for one hour, one time each week.

If I am a divorced parent, and my child's mother/father wants to visit as well, how long will the visit last?
A
If both parents visit on the same date but do not want to visit the minor together, each visit will be 30 minutes.

Can my child's stepparent visit?
A
A minor's natural parents have precedence for visiting. A stepparent may visit only with the JDF Senior Probation Officer's authority and permission.

Can my child have anything from the outside while incarcerated at the Juvenile Detention Facility?
A
Outside contraband, hygiene items, food and drink are not permitted at the JDF. Minors may have softbound books (which containing nothing relating to sex, use of drugs, violence, or gang activity), or a deck of face cards. These items may only be brought in during the minor's regular visitation time, and must be given to the supervising visitation officer. Minors may have postage stamps that are the self-adhesive brand only.

Can my child have his/her homework and books from school during their incarceration at the Juvenile Detention Facility?
A
Homework and schoolbooks may be brought in for a minor to work on and use while incarcerated. However, it will be entirely up to your child to work on this homework during their dayroom hours. Outside homework and schoolbooks will not take the place of the regular school curriculum scheduled in the JDF.

If I mail my child a letter, is it read and inspected before it is given to him/her?
A
Incoming mail will be opened, scanned, and inspected for contraband in the presence of the minor. If it is felt there are articles included with a letter that threaten the orderly operation or security of the Juvenile Detention Facility, that mail may be withheld, returned to sender, placed in the minor's personal property bag, or turned over to the proper authorities for further investigation.

Can I send my child photographs?
A
Photographs will be accepted for an incarcerated minor, and given to the minor dependent on their progress within the facility. These photographs must not contain material related to or insinuating sexual activities or lewdness, the use of drugs or alcohol, violence, or gang related activities. Pictures that violate this policy will be withheld and returned to sender, or placed in the minor's property bag. Photos must be printed on regular photo paper (NO Polaroid pictures).

Can I send my child packages?
A
No packages of any kind will be accepted by the Juvenile Detention Facility (i.e. Federal Express, Overnight Mail, United Parcel Service, books/magazine subscriptions, etc.). If it is suspected an article of mail contains items other than a letter, this mail will be withheld and returned to sender, or given to the minor's Supervising Probation Officer for disbursal to the incarcerated minor's parents or legal guardians.

What else do I need to know about sending my child letters?
A
Letters received in envelopes that contain ornamental drawings, graffiti, gang writing, stickers, etc. will be withheld and returned to sender. Additionally, letters received that are felt to contain items that have been doused with perfume or cologne, or have had perfume or cologne sprayed directly onto the letter or envelope, will be withheld and returned to sender.

My child has never been involved in the Judicial System or had contact with law enforcement before. He/She is now acting incorrigible and acting out. Is there anything I can do? Can I put them in the juvenile hall?
A
No, your child cannot be put in the juvenile hall, or any “locked” detention because of behavior problems. For assistance with a “beyond control” child, contact the Placer County Children's System of Care Program at (530) 889-6700 or the Crisis Resolution Center at 1-866-251-7584 (toll free).

How do I get to the Placer County Juvenile Detention Facility?
A
From Sacramento, take Interstate 80 East. Exit the Grass Valley Highway/Highway 48 interchange. Turn left at the light, headed north towards Grass Valley. Approximately 4 miles up Highway 49, turn left on Atwood Road. Approximately 1 mile down Atwood Road, turn right on Richardson Drive. Turn left on B Avenue. Turn left into the driveway of the Juvenile Detention Facility.


From Reno, take Interstate 80 West. Exit at Bell Road. Turn right at the stop sign. Approximately 3 miles down Bell Road, cross the Grass Valley Highway/Highway 49 intersection. Just over the top of the hill, turn left on Richardson Drive. Turn right on B Avenue. Turn left into the driveway of the Juvenile Detention Facility.

Are counseling services available to my child while they are incarcerated in the Juvenile Detention Facility?
A
Yes, there is a full-time Mental Health Practioner assigned to the Juvenile Detention Facility who offers counseling services and group counseling sessions.

My child has scheduled medical and dental appointments, as well as medical and dental conditions that need attention. Who can I contact regarding these problems?

There is full-time medical staff assigned to the Juvenile Detention Facility. They can be reached at (530) 886-4873.
Q-18
Can my child make phone calls to me while they are incarcerated?
A
Upon a minor's detention in the Juvenile Detention Facility, they may make three phone calls to a parent/guardian and/or their attorney and/or their employer. After the initial telephone calls are completed, minors will be able to complete phone calls to parents and/or legal guardians from a payphone, on a collect call basis only. Phone cards cannot be accepted at or used from the Juvenile Detention Facility payphones. Additionally, minors are permitted to make phone calls out based on their behavior while incarcerated, and their adjustment to the Detention Facility Program.

Can my child write and send letters while incarcerated?
A
The Juvenile Detention Facility will pay the postage for two personal letters per week per minor. Minors may have self-adhesive stamps while in custody, which may be used to pay for postage on additional letters they choose to write and send.
