Capt. David Keyes is a 23-year veteran of the Placer County Sheriff’s Department. He began his career as a deputy with Placer County at the North Lake Tahoe station where he worked in corrections, patrol and detectives for seven years. Keyes was promoted to sergeant in 1992 and transferred to Auburn where he worked in the jail and patrol. Keyes became the station commander of the South Placer Substation in Loomis in 1993. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1995 and continued to serve as the sub-station commander in the rapidly expanding station. Keyes oversaw the tripling in size of the station that serves the Town of Loomis and all un-incorporated areas west of Newcastle.

Keyes transferred to the Corrections Division main jail in Auburn in 1998. His duties there included overseeing the design and construction phases of three major jail construction projects including a 116-bed addition. Keyes was promoted to the rank of captain in June 2001 and served in the Corrections Division until June 2004. He currently oversees the Field Operations Division. Field Operations includes patrol, detectives, school resources, community services, marine patrol, air operations and search and rescue.

Captain Keyes holds a B.A. degree in Law & Society/Criminal Justice and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. Keyes is a 1994 graduate of the FBI National Academy and was a graduate of the California POST Command College in May of 2000. Additionally he completed POST Executive Development School in 2001. Captain Keyes was one of the first graduates of the local Leadership Auburn program. He serves on the Salvation Army of Auburn advisory board, is a member of the Highway 49 Business Association and served as their president in 2002. He is also a member of the Friends of the Library. Captain Keyes enjoys aviation and holds a private pilot license with a multi-engine rating. Additionally, he is active in his local church. He has been married to his wife, Denise, for 19 years. The Auburn couple has one daughter.
