Captain George Malim assumed duties as the corrections commander when he was promoted to captain in December 2006.
The Placer County Jail has a staff of about 145 employees including professional staff, correctional officers, and deputy sheriffs. The jail houses an average daily population of about 600 inmates, male and female, with security classifications ranging from minimum security to maximum security. The Corrections Division is also responsible for security of the courts and the Court Services Unit has about 40 full and part-time employees.
Captain Malim was born and raised in San Francisco and started his law enforcement career with the San Francisco Police Department in February of 1981 as a police officer. He came to the Placer County Sheriff’s Department in March 1985. During his time with Placer County, Captain Malim has worked as a deputy, sergeant, and lieutenant in patrol, investigations, and corrections. His last assignment as a lieutenant prior to his promotion was as the Investigation Commander and Public Information Officer. He was also previously assigned as the South Placer Substation Commander.
Captain Malim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Arts degree in Leadership from Saint Mary’s College of California. He is also a graduate of the 183rd session of the F.B.I. National Academy. Additionally, he attended the POST Management School and POST Executive Development Course.
Captain Malim resides in Lincoln and has two children, both attending college. In his free time Captain Malim enjoys spending time with his children, motorcycle riding, reading and spending time on the Northern California coast.
