Placer County Sheriff's Department

Captain Granum was promoted and became responsible for coordinating operations at the North Lake Tahoe Substation in December 2006.  This station has an authorized strength of about 60 employees operating a 911 Emergency Dispatch center, a jail facility and the Patrol, Investigations, Evidence, Vehicle Maintenance and Community Services divisions.

Captain Granum came to the Sheriff’s department from San Jose Police Department in 1994 after gaining 20 years of experience as a public safety dispatcher, reserve officer and police officer.  He started with Placer County as a deputy and worked his way through the ranks in the jail, patrol, investigations and administration divisions at the Tahoe City office.

Captain Granum is a graduate of San Jose State University having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice.  He holds a full time Community College Instructor credential in Police Science, Communications Services, and Public Services and Administration.  He previously taught at several Bay Area community colleges for 14 years prior to moving to Lake Tahoe.  He is a proud resident of Tahoe City and is involved in the local community with his wife Janet.  Their sons Chad and Curt attended the local schools and have since graduated from college themselves.

Granum believes that the North Tahoe station should be cooperatively responsible with other local government agencies for delivering the highest level of service in the most efficient manner to the community that we serve
