Tahoe Station Commander
Jeffery Ausnow
Captain Jeff Ausnow is a Placer County native and a graduate of Colfax High School. He began his law enforcement career in 1984 after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. He started with the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office and came to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office in 1986.
As a deputy sheriff and sergeant, Jeff worked in the corrections and patrol divisions. He has been a jail deputy and sergeant, a bailiff, a field training officer, a use-of-force instructor, a burglary detective, a narcotics detective, and a search and rescue coordinator.
As a lieutenant, Jeff has worked in the corrections division, as a patrol commander, the investigations division commander, and as the public information officer.
During this time, Jeff was also a member of the Special Enforcement Team from 1989 to 2010 where he worked as a team member, team leader and team commander.
Upon his promotion to captain, Jeff took over as the commander of the Lake Tahoe Station where he is currently assigned.
Jeff has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Management and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Jeff’s service group affiliations include the North Lake Tahoe Kiwanis and the American Legion post 84 in Auburn, CA.
