Laurie Bettencourt (D.A.R.E. Officer)
Schools: Loomis, H. Clarke Powers, Placer, Franklin, Penryn, Newcastle, Ophir, and Alder Grove
Deputy Bettencourt has been employed with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department since 1983. She has worked in the jail, patrol, courts, civil, investigations, and community services. Her favorite position so far has been in community services. She enjoys working with young people and in the schools. Currently Deputy Bettencourt is a DARE Officer for eight schools in Loomis, Penryn, Newcastle, and Ophir. She also is an advisor for the Explorer Program. In this program young people ages 14-20 are taught about law enforcement. Laurie spends her spare time with her husband and three children, ages 17, 14, & 10. They like to ride horses and motorcycles, water ski, and read. She also spends a lot of time watching her kids play sports. When her former DARE students come up and say “Hi” it makes her day! |

Kevin Keith (D.A.R.E. Officer) Schools: Bowman, St. Joseph’s, Rock Creek, Alta-Dutch Flat, Colfax, Iowa Hill, Sheridan, Auburn Elem., and Alder Grove
Deputy Kevin Keith began his law enforcement career with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department in December, 2001. In that time, he has worked in corrections and patrol. Recently, Deputy Keith transferred to the Youth and Community Services Division as a DARE instructor. As a DARE instructor, Kevin enjoys the opportunity to teach elementary school students about the dangers of drugs and violence.
Deputy Keith is married with a ten year old son and a five year old daughter. He is involved in Boy Scouts and enjoys movies and working on cars in his free time.
