HUMAN RESOURCES

Four staff members work together to staff the Human Resources Unit and assist in the administrative duties of the Background Investigations Unit. All members of this unit attend regular training and updates regarding Federal and State laws, county code, the background investigation process and state regulations, and human resources training.

The following information is a brief outline of the Human Resources Unit’s responsibilities:

ALLOCATION MANAGEMENT

Includes, but not limited to, the management of 450+ permanent position allocations, tracking unfunded vs. funded positions allocated through the budget process and maintaining current and historical employee assignment, position, and allocation number information.

EMPLOYEE SERVICES

Includes, but not limited to, the management of Employee Performance Evaluations, New Employee Department Orientation, Personal Information Changes, Issue Employee Identification Cards and Employee Entry Access devices (keys, etc)

RECRUITING SERVICES

Includes, but not limited to, the development of advertising notices, web ads, recruitment flyers, coordination and attendance of Job/Career Fairs, management of certified eligibility applicant lists, department applicant interviews, providing information regarding the departments recruiting, hiring, classification requirements, and information about the department. LIAISONS TO COUNTY PERSONNEL DEPARTMENT

Includes, but not limited to, acting as the department liaison and first contact when assisting County Personnel with day to day personnel inquiries, recruitments, and personnel action forms for Sheriff’s staff for a variety of actions, applicant certification, position reclassifications and staffing issues. ANNUAL SWEARING-IN CEREMONY COORDINATION

Develop curriculum and organize the Placer County Sheriff’s Department Annual Swearing-In Ceremony for new employees, promotions, and department achievement awards. Work closely with the Sheriff’s Training Unit to make this event memorable for our employees and their families.

LIAISONS TO OTHER COUNTY DEPARTMENT, SHERIFF’S OFFICE STAFF AND THE PUBLIC

Unit members provide information and resources for employees, supervisors, managers, other county departments, and the public for a variety of actions.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS UNIT

This unit is currently staffed by retired officers working as extra help deputies and is overseen by the Administrative Lieutenant. The investigators currently working in this unit have a total combined experience in the law enforcement field of over 120 years. They are specifically trained in the background investigations field and attend regular scheduled training updates to keep abreast of current laws, regulations, and procedures.

The human resources unit works closely with this unit, providing assistance in the administrative duties, management of background investigations files, outside agency employment requests, and monitors federal, state, and county regulations governing a pre-employment background investigation to ensure our investigations are being conducted within legal compliance.

The Placer County Sheriff’s background investigation follows the mandates outlined by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) for all peace officer and dispatcher positions.
