WORK-STUDY ALLOWANCE PROGRAM

Who is Eligible?

You must be a veteran enrolled ¾ or full time under the GI bill (Chapter 30), be a veteran enrolled ¾ or full time under the Post 911 GI Bill (Chapter 33), or vocational rehabilitation program (Chapter 31). Selection of applicants will be based primarily upon their need to supplement monthly educational assistance or subsistence allowances.

Spouses and dependents of veterans enrolled ¾ or full time under the dependents Educational Assistance Program (Chapter 35) are also eligible.

How Much May I Earn?

You may work a maximum of 25 hours per week during each semester. Payment will be at the rate of $8.00 per hour, or an amount equal to the hourly minimum wage, whichever is greater. You may work less than 25 hours depending on your work availability and your own schedule and needs.

Payments are made in arrears for each 50 hours of service performed.

What Type of Work?

Services performed under the VA work-study program must be VA related in nature. Work is performed at the Placer County Veterans Service Office. Examples of such services might include: processing of VA paperwork, outreach services under the supervision of a Placer County Veterans Service Office employee. These examples are not all-inclusive – the nature of work will depend upon your interests and the type of work situations available.

Work may be scheduled during the semester (or other enrollment period), or during vacation periods between periods of enrollment.
