The Auburn Folsom Road Widening Project is located on Auburn Folsom Road from the Placer/City of Folsom line north to Fuller Drive. The Placer County Department of Public Works (DPW) recommended project is a combination of alignment alternatives studied in the Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The proposed alignment was selected as the preferred alternative due to its compliance with specific project goals, such as improvement of safety, capacity and design speed, while minimizing environmental and social impacts by selecting the best right of way and roadway profile combinations for specific portions of the project.
The proposed widening includes widening Auburn Folsom Road to provide four 12-foot lanes (two in each direction) and 6-foot paved shoulders to accommodate Class II bike lanes on each side. Generally, a 16-foot painted and/or raised median will also be incorporated, with two sections (approximately 300 linear feet each) of raised landscaped medians at each end of the project. A granite monument with an inscription welcoming people to Granite Bay will be placed in the southerly landscaped median.
Existing signalized intersections (Auburn Folsom Road/Eureka Road and Auburn Folsom Road/Oak Hill Drive) will be modified, and a new signal has been installed at the intersection of Auburn Folsom Road and Fuller Drive.
Access to streets and driveways, specifically left turn movements, will be maintained either through two way left turn lanes, left turn pockets, or U-turn capabilities located in close proximity.
The Board of Supervisors has taken the following actions:
- Certified the Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) with findings.
- Approved the project alignment, components and phasing to allow the final design on the North and South Phases to proceed and to purchase right of way for all phases of the project.
- Awarded the construction contract for a traffic signal at Fuller Drive to M & M Electric for $245,000. (completed 2006)
- Awarded the construction contract for the South Phase to Teichert Construction for $4.7 million.
The project has been divided into four phases: Fuller Signal (the construction of a signal at Fuller Drive and Auburn-Folsom Road) North Phase (south of Douglas to approximately 1500’ south of Eureka Road), South Phase (County Line to approximately 1500’ north of Oak Hill Drive), and Middle Phase (1500’ south of Eureka Road to 1500’ north of Oak Hill Road).
Construction for the South Phase began April 2008. Teichert Construction is the contractor on this $4.7 million project.
Construction dates for the remaining phases will be determined as right-of-way is acquired, funding becomes available, and subject to Board of Supervisors approval.
