Dollar Creek Shared-Use Trail

The Dollar Creek Shared-Use Trail (DCST) will be approximately 2.2 miles long, extending the existing trail at Dollar Hill and connecting it to the Cedar Flats neighborhood. The trail will allow riders to travel to Tahoe City, north to Squaw Valley and south to Homewood on existing trail network.

The project is funded by the California Tahoe Conservancy (Conservancy) and the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association (NLTRA).

The principal purpose of this project is to deliver an important component of the North Shore's non-motorized transportation network, which will help to meet the Conservancy's Public Access and Recreation Program objectives. In summary, the project will support these objectives as it is consistent with the Tahoe Region's Environmental Improvement Program (EIP) and aligns partially or in full with three of the program's four primary objectives:

1. To increase and enhance significant regional public access and public recreational opportunities consistent with natural resource preservation;
2. To provide a range of public access opportunities to locations with regionally significant lakefront, riverfront, cultural/historical, and natural characteristics; and
3. To increase regional waterborne and non-motorized transportation and recreation opportunities.

Highlighted benefits of the project can be summarized as follows:

• Completion of the DCST will enhance recreational and transportation opportunities by extending a linked series of Class 1 bicycle trails from Tahoe City towards Kings Beach, connecting Tahoe City Public Utility District's ten-mile trail from Tahoe City to Sugar Pine Point State Park and the 3.7 mile trail along the Truckee River to Squaw Valley. The project will also complement the Conservancy-funded Tahoe City "Wye" Recreational Access Project which provided bike trail parking at the junction of these trails in Tahoe City. Construction of the DCST will also be a significant step toward completion of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Lake Tahoe Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.
• The north shore area of Lake Tahoe is underserved with respect to recreation facilities. Facilities that do exist are often only linked by a state highway, and providing an alternative mode and route of transportation in the area would be desired by communities and tourists, and Basin agencies support multiple modes of transportation around Lake Tahoe.
• This project can be considered both considered both recreational and transportation oriented. The DCST will provide a continuous alternative transportation route between the Cedar Flats neighborhood and Tahoe City.
