The Community Health Division protects the health and wellbeing of all county residents. It identifies and combats communicable diseases with public education and prevention measures, promotes healthy lifestyles, and plans for and responds to disasters, disease outbreaks, and possible bio-terrorism events. This division also works to combat possible abuse of vulnerable members of our society, especially children and the elderly.
The division:
- Plans the public-health response for possible local, regional or national emergencies, like a contageous disease outbreak, and coordinating efforts with local and regional health care partners.
- Addresses, reduces or prevents domestic or family violence, and elder abuse
- Provides home visits for adults and children
- Registers births and deaths in the county. More information on certificates.
- Provides the Women, Infants and Children's Supplemental Nutrition Program, WIC
- Manages the Teenage Pregnancy and Parenting Program, TAPP, to promote healthy births and support succesful parenting
- Educates employers about health-related labor laws, and the Health and Safety Code related to smoking and tobacco use.
- Manages the Public Health Laboratory
