Consumer Protection Team
The Placer County Consumer Protection Team consists of two Program Supervisors (Auburn and Tahoe), and ten District Specialists throughout Placer County.
Placer County's Consumer Protection Team provides a wide range of services in which it protects the health of the public.
Retail Food Facilities
The Team inspects over 1,700 retail food facilities (ie: restaurants, markets, schools, mini-marts, etc ...) at least twice a year. The team also performs re-inspections, when needed and responds to complaints from the public as well.
In addition, the team also inspects Temporary Special Events , Certified Farmers Markets, and Mobile Food Facilities.
Plan Check Review
Plan Check Review is a large part of our service. The Team performs Plan Check Review of construction plans for new food facilities and remodels, and public pools and spas.
Food Handler Certification
Food Handler Certification Courses are also a large part of our service to the County. Classes are conducted 3-4 times a year, and are designed to teach Food Facility operators how to safely conduct food preparation, handling, and storage.
Public Pools and Spas
The team inspects over 500 public pools, spas, and water parks year round.
Public (Small) Water Systems
There are over 100 Small Water Systems in Placer County. The team oversees these to help ensure the systems provide safe drinking water.
Stormwater Food Facility Inspection Program
The new program in which Stormwater Quality elements are inspected for, at Food Facilities in Unincorporated Placer County.
Complaint Response

Housing Program
The Consumer Protection Team also has a Housing Program. The Program Specialist in this area responds to over 300 complaints a year.

Food Borne Ilness Information Video

Body Art
The Consumer Protection Team permits and inspects Body Art Facilities (Tatoo, Body Piercing, Permanent Cosmetics)
