Consumer Protection Complaints

Our Consumer Protection Team responds to complaints regarding public pools, spas, and food facilities.  Complaints from the public and other agencies are very important to us and will be responded to in an efficient and uniform manner.

Complaints come into our office via counter, mail, fax or phone. Complaint forms must be completed including the name, address, phone number, and signature of the complainant; the nature and location of the complaint; and other pertinent information.  Complaint Form. 

Please NOTE: Complainant’s name remains confidential unless legal action is taken, and is important should our office need to obtain more information. 

 

Food Borne Illness Complaints  

A large responsibility of the Consumer Protection Team is to investigate Food Borne Illness complaints, and their associated food facilities.

All other complaints (food facility related, land use, consumer protection, haz-mat, housing, nuisance, sewage, and illegal dumping) please contact Environmental Health at 530-745-2300

If you feel you became ill (Food Borne Illness), because of food eaten at a food facility; Please contact the Communicable Disease(CD) nurse at 530-889-7150.

NOTE:  Please be ready to provide 3-day food history.  This information is vital in determining the complaint.

Once these complaints (non-food borne) are logged in to the computer, these complaints are assigned (within 24 to 48 hours) to the Registered Environmental Health Specialist in that particular district or to the Duty Specialist of that day. The Specialist will do appropriate action such as inspection, investigation, issuance of Notice to Abate (1 to 5 days after complaint is received), and referral to other agencies. The District Specialist will only notify the complainant of the status of the complaint if the complainant specifically requested that he or she be informed or notified of the status or outcome of the complaint.
