Certified Farmers Markets (CFM's) are markets where local farmers can sell their value rated product to the public.  They are usually held outdoors and in public places.

Per Section 113742 of California Retail Food Law, “a certified farmers’ market means a location that is certified by the State of California through the enforcement officers of the county agricultural commissioners and operated pursuant to Chapter 10.5 (commencing with Section 47000) of Division 17 of the food and Agricultural Code and regulations adopted pursuant to that chapter.”

There are varieties of Farmers Markets that occur in Placer County, and each one is inspected by the Environmental Health Department.  Certified Farmers Markets are required to comply with all State and Local laws and ordinances.  Certified Farmers Markets within Placer County are allowed to provide prepared foods only if necessary permits are obtained and applications are submitted to Placer County Environmental Health.  If you have any questions, please contact our Consumer Protection Team.

Certified Farmers Markets may also have Food Sampling available to customers.  If a vendor at a Farmer's Market or other food event has samples available, there are certain Food Sampling Guidelines to follow.
