Food Safety Certification and Handler Card

Food Safety Classes

The Consumer Protection Team (CPT) offers a one day Food Certification Class. Food Facilities (except Temporary Facilities) doing any food preparation of potentially hazardous foods are required to have a minimum one person on staff, who has received Food Safety Certification.

This class can be taken through any accredited agency, however, the class is offered as a service to Placer County Residents through our office. To best serve our students, we have two locations for the Food Certification Class.

Classes may be attended in Auburn or Tahoe. It is offered approximately (4) times per year in Auburn and (2) times per year in Tahoe.

The Class is filled on a "first come, first served" basis. Once the application and fee are received you will be sent a food class registration letter. PLEASE call the Consumer Protection Clerk to verify the your application has been received, and you have been placed in the class.


Books and exams are also available in Spanish.

Food Handler Cards

(SB602) Food Handler Card - The State of California has recently passed SB 602 which requires that all food handlers must possess a valid Food Handlers Card as part of their employment at a food facility. The Food Handler card, now meets the Cottage Food Training Requirement.
