Septic Pumpers

The Consumer Protection team is also charged with inspecting and licensing of Septic Tank Pump Trucks. (Septic Pumpers).

Septic Tank Pumper - Person specifically licensed to remove and properly dispose of the contents of a domestic septic tank, or chemical toilet (portables). The term “pumper” assumingly comes from the manner which is used to remove the septic tank contents. The pumping contractor has a truck with a 1000 to 2000-gallon capacity, steel tank mounted on the vehicle. A powerful vacuum pump is connected to the steel tank. When the pump is activated, a sufficient suction force is generated so that the sewage contents of the septic tank or chemical toilet can be drawn through a large diameter, flexible pipe into the steel tank on the truck and thus removed for disposal.

There are specific requirements that the trucks must have in order to pass inspection and qualify for a permit to operate within Placer County. It is important to note that trucks from other counties that operate within Placer County, are required to be inspected and permitted through Placer County Environmental Health as well.

PLEASE NOTE that existing Septic Tank Pumper Trucks, that were permitted the prior year, are still required to pass an inspection annually, IN ADDITION, to paying the annual operating permit fee.

The process starts with the submittal of a completed Application for Septage Pumpers & Chemical Toilet Operations.

Your truck must have the following, at the time of inspection:

Legible Name and Address on each side or rear of tank or vehicle, 4 inch high minimum letter size.
Legible Permit Number on each side, or rear of tank or vehicle, 4 inch high minimum letter size.
Discharge Valve capped
Discharge Valve cap chained to vehicle
Hose and disinfectant for clean-up, carried on vehicle
Exterior of vehicle and tank clean, and in good repair
Pump, Tank, Tank Lid or Cover, and accessories apparently free of leaks
Valid License Plate, and Vehicle Identification (VIN #) on vehicle

Inspection Scheduling

Upon successful payment of the permit fee, and submittal of a completed application, You are ready to schedule an inspection. When you are ready to schedule an inspection, or if you have questions, call (530) 745-2300. You will be able to have your vehicle inspected right at our office, for curbside service. Upon successful completion of the inspection and the above requirements have been met, you will be issued a permit that is good for one year. The permit sticker will then be applied to a visible location on the vehicle.
