Underground Storage Tanks
Placer County Environmental Health (PCEH), Hazardous Materials Section, has been designated by California Environmental Protection Agency as the Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA), for Placer County.
PCEH conducts Underground Storage Tank (UST) permitting, construction plan checks, inspections, and tank closure activities.
Placer County Environmental Health (PCEH) classifies underground storage tank (UST) repairs, modifications and upgrades into two categories: work requiring a permit, and no permit required. These categories are determined by the scope of work and the need for a site inspection. UST work requiring a permit involves the submission of a UST Permit Application, a technical review of the proposed work, equipment to be used and contractor information and at least one site inspection. It may also include soil and/or ground water sampling. If the proposed work is approved, a UST Installation, Modification or Repair letter will be issued by PCEH to both the UST owner and the contractor. It will list site-specific construction and inspection requirements. No UST construction activities can proceed prior to the issuance of this letter. Work can begin upon receipt of the approval letter.
For assistance in determining the classification of repairs to be made to your underground storage tank system please refer to the UST Installation Modification Repair Guide or contact the PCEH Hazardous Materials Section at (530) 745-2300.
For permit fees please refer to the PCEH Fee Schedule, at the Applications, Forms, and Fees link below.
