CalFresh
CalFresh (formerly known as Food Stamps) can help families and individuals put healthy and nutritious food on the table. CalFresh provides some extra help to those who are in need each month to buy groceries. With a CalFresh electronic “debit” card you can buy most foods at many food stores and farmers markets.
Who Can Receive CalFresh?
Anyone, any age, who is a legal U.S. resident, lives in Placer County and meets the income limits (see chart)
College students (age 18 to 49) who are enrolled half-time or more can receive CalFresh if they are working at least 20 hours per week, approved for state or federally funded work study program, or have parental responsibility for a child under six years old.

Resources
Only your income is counted for CalFresh. You can own your home, have a car and a *bank account and still receive CalFresh.
*A copy of your bank account may be requested to verify any interest income that is received.
Expedited CalFresh
You may be able to receive your CalFresh benefits within three days of your application (week-end and holiday count as one day) if your gross income, combined with any money you have available to you, i.e. bank accounts, is less than your rent/mortgage and utilities; and/or if your gross income is less than $150.00 and the money available to you, ex. bank accounts, is $100.00 dollars or less.

County Responsibility
Placer County Department of Human Services is responsible for certifying eligible households and determining their monthly CalFresh benefit amount. The Department of Human Services administers the program under the supervision of the California Department of Social Services.
