CalWORKs Workshops

This is the list of current CalWORKs and Job Readiness workshops. These workshops are open to any adult over 18 who wishes to attend. Some are geared specifically for CalWORKs clients. If you are currently receiving assistance through the CalWORKs program, please contact your Welfare to Work counselor.
- Applications:
Learn how to complete a master application; the first step when seeking employment.
- Barriers to Employment/Labor Market:
Participants will receive information on current labor trends in Placer County and the surrounding areas. Other topics include learning about the barriers that may keep you from finding and keeping employment, and how to overcome them.
- CALJOBS RESUME:
Enter your resume on the State’s CalJOBS System and learn how it works to help you with your job search.
- CASAS Assessment:
This class helps students strengthen skills by assessing reading, spelling and math proficiencies, then practicing those skills.
- Goal-Setting/Decision-Making:
Understand how to plan for short-term and long-term goals. Participants will identify a goal, and work through the steps required to reach their goal. A step-by-step guide is provided to help stay on track.
- Interviewing:
Participants learn how to dress for an interview, and how to answer interview questions. A mock interview is done to help the job seekers feel more comfortable and do better during interviews.
- Money Management:
Stresses the importance of creating a budget as a spending plan to help you reach your goals.
- Resumes:
Learn how to develop and write a resume. Participants will be able to use the resources available at the One-Stop Career Center. A basic resume is completed in class.
- Skills Review:
This class covers basic math and reading competencies and provides help in areas of need.
- Succeeding on the Job:
Students learn how successful work habits are the first step to winning raises, promotions and developing pride in your job.
- Time Management:
Covers short-term and long-term planning strategies, how to adjust to changing priorities, preventing procrastination, keeping schedules and avoiding time wasters.
