 In 1996, the Board of Supervisors approved the Placer County Redevelopment Agency. The Agency identifies communities in the unincorporated area of the county - usually older areas having economic difficulties - which meet state and federal redevelopment standards. Then the Agency assists community members, private individuals and organizations, and public agencies to rebuild. The Agency also establishes the physical and economic tools needed to allow the community to remain healthy and to grow. In addition to the economy and the physical infrastructure of a community, the Agency addresses a community's environmental well-being. Finally, the agency seeks ways to encourage restoration or development of well-designed affordable housing.

Note: the maps provided for redevelopment project areas only indicate general location guidelines and are not intended to show official area or project boundaries.

Areas marked for redevelopment have access to special federal and state grants, and other resources. The Agency helps interested parties to locate and secure these resources. In addition to county-wide programs for business and housing, Placer County has identified several areas in the county  that qualify for redevelopment projects. They include:

• North Lake Tahoe Redevelopment Area consisting of the Tahoe Gateway, parts of Tahoe City, Kings Beach and Tahoe Vista
• The North Auburn Redevelopment Area, including parts of the North Auburn and Bowman areas
• The Sunset Industrial Redevelopment Area, encompassing much of the Sunset Industrial Area

Three implementation plans are also available:

• NEW North Auburn/Bowman 2007-2012 (Highway 49 & Bowman)
• NEW Sunset Industrial Area 2007-2012 (Rocklin-Roseville Area)
• North Lake Tahoe (2006-2011)

CDBG - Community Development Block Grant, a federally funded program that provides grants for housing, public works, and economic development programs. The Agency manages this program for the County and makes funds available annually on a competitive basis to small cities and counties.

There are two CDBG areas in Placer county, in Sheridan and in Foresthill . For details on RDA projects in these areas, contact the RDA office at 530-745-3150, or by email  (redev@placer.ca.gov).

The State of California administers the CDBG program.
