Placer County Charter Information

The fundamental document which provides for Placer County government is the county charter. The charter describes the county's boundaries, its name, establishes five county districts, explains that a Board of Supervisors will be elected by county voters - one supervisor from each district - and outlines the powers and duties of the Board. The charter also identifies other county officers to be elected and appointed, and their duties.

The charter also requires the Board of Supervisors to convene a Charter Review Committee every five years. The Charter Review Committee must review the charter, hold at least two public hearings, and then make recommendations to the Board for amendments to or revisions of the charter.
