Precinct Officer General Information

Voting in Placer County precincts is conducted by qualified Precinct Officers (Inspectors, Judges and Clerks) who are appointed by the Placer County Clerk/Registrar of Voters.

Precinct Officers are responsible for conducting the voting in strict accordance with the voting laws of the State of California, and in doing so they perform a very important service in preserving the democratic way of life in the land.

REQUIREMENTS: A Precinct Officer must:

1.

Be at least 18 years of age (or a High School Student at least 16 years of age and good academic standing)

2.

Be a registered voter in California

3.

Read and write English

4.

Work on Election Day from 6:00 A.M. until all duties are completed (approx. 9:00 P.M.)

5.

Attend a 3 hour training class, per election

6.

Have transportation

DUTIES: The duties of Precinct Officers (Inspectors, Judges and Clerks) include:

1.

Prepare, open and close the polling place location

2.

Locate voter names on the roster

3.

Issue to and receive from the voters, their official ballots

4.

Assist voters in any phase of the voting process

5.

Perform all required duties assigned by the Registrar of Voters or Precinct Inspector

THE INSPECTOR, IN ADDITION, MUST:

1.

Be in charge of a polling place and its Precinct Board on election day

2.

Assign duties to clerks on election day

3.

Accept and check election supplies and accessibility of the polling place before election day

PAYMENT: Precinct Officers will be paid as follows:

1.

Inspector:

$100.00

2.

Judge:

$90.00

3.

Clerk:

$85.00

4.

Training:

$20.00 for all poll workers (training is mandatory for Inspectors and Judges and is optional for Clerks and Students)
