Consumer Protection Team

The Placer County Consumer Protection Team consists of two Program Supervisors (Auburn and Tahoe), and up to ten District Specialists throughout Placer County.

These the serivces that the team provides:

Retail Food Facilities The team inspects over 1,700 retail food facilities, and responds to complaints from the public as well. The team also inspects Special Events, Farmers Markets, Food Vehicles.

Plan Check Review The team performs reviews construction plans for new food facilities, remodels and public pools and spas.

Food Handler Certification Classes are conducted 3-4 times a year, that teach Food Facility operators how to safely conduct food preparation, handling, and storage.

Public Pools and Spas The team inspects over 500 public pools, spas, and water parks year round.

Public (Small) Water Systems The team oversees over 100 systems in order to ensure the systems provide safe drinking water.

Stormwater Food Facility Inspection Program The team inspects Food Facility Stormwater Quality requirements in Unincorporated Placer County.

Complaint Response The team responds to over 1,000 complaints per year. If you have a concern or a complaint regarding a Food Facility, please visit our complaints page.

Housing Program The Consumer Protection Team also has a Housing Program. The Program Specialist in this area responds to over 300 complaints a year.

Applications, Forms, and Fees The Consumer Protection Team has many forms available. They range from applications, fee listings, to informational handouts.

Food Borne Ilness Information Video If you think you had a food borne illness as a result of eating at a restaurant or other food facility and you would like to file a complaint, please call Placer County Public Health Nursing at 530-886-7141.

Body Art The Consumer Protection Team permits and inspects Body Art Facilities (Tatoo, Body Piercing, Permanent Cosmetics)
