Grand Opening For Feist Park Planned
The public is invited to attend a grand-opening celebration for Ronald L. Feist Park in Granite Bay Saturday, May 6. The grand-opening ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. The park is at 9180 Twin Schools Road between Granite Bay High School, and Oakhills and Ridgeview Elementary Schools.
“This is an important day for Granite Bay, and I hope residents will be there to help us celebrate,” said Supervisor Ted Gaines, the Board of Supervisors member who represents Granite Bay. “The park is beautiful, and it will accommodate a wide range of recreational activities. Come see what I mean - and help us recognize the many dedicated individuals and groups who helped make this park a reality.”
Scheduled speakers include Supervisor Gaines and Ronald L. Feist, a retired superintendent of the Eureka Union Elementary School District. Other speakers include Chairman Steve Nash of the Granite Bay Municipal Advisory Council’s Park Committee, Phil Johnson of the Ronald L. Feist Park Task Force and Jan Pinney, President of the Board of Trustees for the Roseville Joint Union High School District.
The master of ceremonies will be county Director of Facility Services Jim Durfee.
The 16.3-acre park has play fields for baseball, soccer, football and other recreational activities, as well as picnic areas, tot lots, landscaped areas, a wetlands preserve and a plaza area with a snack shack. Six tennis courts will be added this summer by the Roseville Joint Union High School District, and basketball court will be built after the tennis courts are in.
During the grand-opening celebration, the snack shack will be open, and food and drinks will be free to the public.
The county and Eureka Union Elementary School District have been partners on the park project, along with many community service groups, sports leagues and community members. Community volunteers have contributed labor, materials and cash donations totaling more than $1 million.
