Flint Knapping and Fire at the Bernhard Museum

Updated 5/2/06

May is Archaeology Month. How are you going to celebrate it this year? Are you going to take an archaeologist out for lunch? Subscribe to Discovering Archaeology? Visit an archaeological site?

The best way to celebrate this year is to attend the FREE archaeology program at the Bernhard Museum Winery on Saturday, May 13, 2006 from 10:00 to 12:00. The program will begin with a quick review of North American archaeology with an introduction to the Clovis versus Pre-Clovis debate. Next will be a flint knapping (stone tool making) demonstration by U.S. Forest Service Archaeologist Nolan Smith. Mr. Smith will also discuss dating methods and rock types used in tool making. Following the flint knapping demonstration will be a fire starting demonstration by Placer County Museums staff. Both demonstrations will include audience participation, so bring your sense of adventure! Help us celebrate Archaeology Month by joining us at the Bernhard Museum Winery on May 13th!

The Bernhard Museum Winery is located at 291 Auburn Folsom Road in Auburn. For more information, please call (530) 889-6500.
